Moving To University Dorms: What To Expect & What To Bring

When you’re headed off to university, it can be hard to know what to expect and what to bring, especially if you’ve never lived away from home before. This month, Rylands Removals are here to help you put together the ultimate checklist that will ensure you have all you need with you once you reach your new university town.

Don’t worry about leaving things behind

You need not stress if you can’t take everything with you, chances are you’ll only take half of your belongings with you because you’ll only be occupying one room. Don’t forget that there will be shops close by and that online shopping exists – so it’s not the be-all and end-all if you have forgotten something.

Be aware of your accommodation

If you have a studio flat, you will be able to see the description online stating what your room already has. This usually includes: beds, desks, drawers, kitchen and fridge/freezer. However, if you’re in shared accommodation with communal areas, it’s best to wait a few weeks to see what other people bring. For example, instead of bringing common things such as kettles and toastie makers, move in first. It’s pointless having one appliance for each individual, not to mention, that will take up a whole lot of room! Sometimes it’s best to take only the essentials, so that you avoid overspending on things you do not need and taking up space in your car on the journey there.
